uletide Hearth evolved from a single photograph taken one evening during the Christmas holidays while sitting by the walk-in fireplace in this 1806 farmhouse. Gazing at the crèche on the hearth, lit only by a string of Christmas lights above it, a phrase from the carol, “O Little Town of Bethlehem” came to the author's mind: “… yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light; the hopes and fears of all the years, are met in thee tonight.”
After taking a picture of the scene, the idea of making a Christmas book combining images of the house during the holidays with quotations from well known Christmas carols and literature designed to illustrate the meaning and message of Christmas began to unfold.
The author's dream has resulted in this lovely tribute to the season with over 60 color photographs, poetry and the author's research of the history and lifestyle of each house occupant. The author's photographs are accompanied by images made by award-winning photographer Blair Seitz.
Within these pages you will read the story of the families this old Pennsylvania farmhouse has sheltered over nearly two-hundred years, their holiday celebrations, and some of the historic events which occurred during their time living in the homestead.
You will see pictures of its simple Yuletide beauty, and read cherished Bible passages and Christmas carols, many of which were known and loved by the owners of the home throughout the two centuries.
The book shows how the two thousand-year old Christmas message continues to inspire and uplift our lives wherever we live it. |
